Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino 2010

Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino 750ML 2010     POGGIO ROSSO
Sku: 11212

Tasting notes
Intense ruby red colour. Fruity bouquet with red berry notes. Very well structured, mellow, long-lasting flavour with smooth, velvety tannins

The 2010 Rosso di Montalcino captures the essence of this great Montalcino vintage. An elegant, expressive bouquet gives way to layers of vibrant fruit in this energetic, totally polished Rosso. After several years of experimenting with a more accessible style of Rosso, Il Poggione has moved back to making the firm, structured style of Rosso for which the estate is famous. Fabrizio and Alessandro Bindocci showed me their 2010 Rosso after all the Brunellos from vintages 2006-2010, plus several older vintages including 1983, 1991, 1998 and 2003. No matter, the 2010 Rosso was great. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2030.

Wine maker notes
Younger, more accessible version of Brunello, but already very well-developed with a strong character, Rosso di Montalcino is a very important wine for Tenuta Il Poggione. Produced entirely from Sangiovese grapes from the youngest of the estate’s vineyards, Rosso di Montalcino is matured for 12 months in large barrels before undergoing a period of bottle aging. Aging in wood, though not obligatory for the production of Rosso di Montalcino, tones down the tannins typical of a young Sangiovese and gives this red wine the complex aroma and body that make it a great “young Brunello”.

Food pairing
pasta with meat sauce, roasted and grilled meats, medium strength cheeses.
