Boroli Barolo 2008

Boroli Barolo 750ml 2008
Sku: 20465

The Borolis are a Piedmontese family who have been in business in the region first in textiles, and now in winegrowing since 1831. Boroli is comprised of two estates: Cascina Bompe, in a small village just outside of Alba with its own winery and La Brunella in the heart of Barolo in Castiglione Falletto. In addition to the vineyards above, the property includes Villero and Borgata Cerequio both considered two of the Langhe’s great cru vineyards. Each vineyard has a particular terrior La Brunella has a mostly mediumloamy chalk soil with sand veins, and east to south, southwesterly and west exposures. The Villero exposition is south-southwest and the soil is a moisture-retaining mix of marl, clay and silt. Borgata Cerequio faces south and southeast on limestone and sand soil, at an altitude of 900 feet above sea level. The estate’s director is the winemaker Enzo Alluvione, who is assisted by his son Daniele in the vineyards. The estate’s consultant is the noted winemaker Beppe Caviola who was chosen a Gambero Rosso’s Winemaker of the Year in 2002.

Tasting notes
The bouquet is elegant with hintsof red mature fruits, leather, tobacco and sensations of oak, while on the palate the powerful structure emerges with a long persistent finish.

Wine Advocate 91 points (Oct 2012)
Boroli’s 2008 Barolo is the product of a very tough vintage. The estate’s parcels in Cerequio and Villero - which are usually bottled separately - were both victims of hail. Boroli ultimately decided to blend the best of their fruit into a single bottling. For that effort, Boroli has been rewarded with a gorgeous wine endowed with serious weight. Licorice, tobacco, smoke and camphor are some of the notes that are layered into this expressive, nuanced Barolo. Intense layers of flavor build to a rich, powerful finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023.

Wine maker notes
Wine produced with nebbiolo grapes, typical red garnet colour. The bouquet is elegant with hints of red mature fruits, leather, tobacco and sensations of oak, while on the palate the powerful structure emerges with a long persistent finish. It is a long-tasting wine matured in cask and barrique for 24 months and refined in bottle for 18 months. Serving temperature is 19-20C and it is served with read meats, ripe-strong cheeses. It is excellent also after meal.

Technical notes
Aged in barrels and barriques for 24 months and refined in bottle an additional 18 months.
