Fontanafredda Barolo Serralunga d'Alba 750ML 2008
Sku: 50956

Vineyards are located in medium and upper slopes (985-1300 feet above sea level). All vineyards face south/south-west. The soils are of Miocene-Helvetian origin with a high content of limestone and grey marl alternating with sand.

Tasting notes
Garnet-red with ruby highlights that take on a slightlyorange tone over time ------------------------------------------

Rating
Wine Advocate 90 points (Oct 2012)
Fontanafreddas 2008 Barolo Serralunga wraps around the palate with serious intensity and muscle. This is pure Serralunga in its dark fruit, iron, tar and scorched earth. Powerful tannins frame the incisive, long finish. I see Fontanafreddas straight Barolo as an excellent restaurant wine, despite its considerable power and sheer exuberance. Overall, this is an impressive showing from Fontanafredda. I look forward to seeing what winemaker Danilo Drocco and his team did with the single-vineyard Baroli at Fontanafredda and their sister property, Mirafiore. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018.”,,,

Wine maker notes
Vines are guyot trained with plant density around 4,400 plants/ha. Harvest takes place in the first half of October. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented for 15 days in stainless steel vats with a floating cap at a controlled temperature (85-87F). The must then stays in contact with the skins for a further 15 days to optimize the extraction and help start the subsequent malolactic fermentation.

Technical notes
13.5% abv

Food pairing
Ideal with hearty red meat dishes and medium or mature cheeses.
