Navarro Correas Structura Ultra 2009

Navarro Correas Structura Ultra 750ML 2009
Sku: 53193

 Vinous 89 points (Mar 2014)
(48% malbec, 35% cabernet sauvignon, 7% cabernet franc, 5% merlot and 5% petit verdot): Saturated dark ruby. Superripe, high-toned aromas of black cherry, blackberry and violet. Supple, rich and verging on liqueur-like, with compelling sweetness to its flavors of dark berries, coffee and mocha. Finishes with substantial ripe, tongue-dusting tannins that show a slightly gritty texture. Stuffed with material but can’t match the 2008 version of this bottling for class. This wine finished with a tad more than three grams per liter of residual sugar.
 Wine Spectator 92 points (Jul 2 2014)
Very creamy and lush, with a deep well of dark plum, blackberry and cocoa powder flavors, featuring some tarry notes. Plush and rich on the finish, with finely textured smoke and spice elements. Drink now through 2020.K.M.

Wine maker notes
Each year, our winemaker selects grapes from some of our finest vineyards in Mendoza to create a wine that is the ultimate expression of the vintage. The 2006 Ultra is from the esteemed subregions of Tunuyan, Tupungato and La Consulta in the Uco Valley. This is extreme wine country. At approximately 4,000 feet, the vineyards sit, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, in the foothills of the Andes, where the clarity of air is met by radiance of the sun. The dramatic topography is matched by the climate, which provides huge diurnal temperature variation and little rain. Combined, these forces produce concentrated fruit with brooding intensity of character. Made only in select years, our Structura Ultra is the ultimate expression of our finest wine of the vintage, crafted to encompass the very best that the harvest has to offer. We began by carefully selecting the fruit, which was hand picked and hand sorted. Following a six-day cold maceration, the grapes were fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 30 days and then gently pressed and gravity fed into 100 percent new French oak barrels for secondary (malolactic) fermentation and 18 months of aging. Just before bottling, Winemaker Gaspar Roby balanced the Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot into a poetic whole.
